(B161) Richard Torrance manager Unigate. Richard very kindly offered to role play in an interview for 6th formers. I can’t recall if they got the  job.

 

(B163) Stone artificial cladding, Wesley Road. Insulation or ornamental?

(B166) John of Gaunt school under scaffolding. This could be buildings maintenance before LMS (Local Management of  Schools) came into effect.

B166 – wasn’t the scaffolding here to repair fire damage at the school – a look in the Wiltshire Times archives would reveal whether that is the case. [John Baxter]

B166 I think this was due to a fire. [Stephen Lovering]

 

(B167) Holy Trinity church, the garrison church, advertising a visit  by the Evangelist Billy Graham

 

(B168) Gloucester Rd Methodist Church also promoting the visit to Bristol by Billy Graham

 

(B173) the shoe repair man in Newtown, he was the son of the previous shoe repair man.

Sally says – Shoe repair man B173 would have been Mr Earle, but this chap looks like he might have been a grandson? Sally Bere

 

(B174) Somewhere round the back at Newtown.

Sally says – Area behind Newtown B174 was previously the yard & basket works, taken over by Airsprung in their early days. I think the man who sold militaria might have had storage there about this time.  Will email again when I have more time!  all the best Sally Bere

Steve says – B174 The entrance between the Pizza shop & Newtown Household Economy was access to the old Basket Factory ‘Loxleys’ still there in the 70’s. not sure when it was pulled down. Steve Lovering.
