The sun is out and the people of Trowbridge are enjoying in sunshine

(A492) Daffodils in spring at St Jame’s church. The second  tallest spire in the county. (The tallest is Salisbury cathedral).

(A494) Two young ladies sharing a lunch break in the sun outside the Blind House on the River Biss.

Henrietta Wilson writes

I have found it fascinating to study the photographs taken as part of this project. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I enlarged photograph A494 to see me and my best friend gossiping!

In 1984 we were both 14 years old and were students at the John of Gaunt School. My name was Henrietta Falconer and my best friend was Isabel Jack (daughter of Canon Jack). The photograph was a blast from the past that brought back many happy memories!

(A496) Car park undercover (somewhere).

(B104) Michael Snook, dentist access via Siver St

(B105) children home watching television

(B106) Footpath leading to Victoria Road

(B107) Post Office at Hilperton

(B109) Councillor Mary Salisbury, a member of the Labour Party, who achieved the rare distinction of becoming  leader of Wiltshire County Council, full of Tories.

(B110) The Byways, a cafe for staff and vistors in the Lower Grouind Foor of County Hall.  [Love the 70’s decor.]

I well remember The Byways at County Hall as I was Secretary to the Committee that ran it on behalf of staff and visitors.  John Biggs who looked after the excellent Wiltshire’s School Meals Service was the officer in charge and we ensured that it was not a charge on Wiltshire’s ratepayers.  When one looks at the open air offering at County Hall nowadays, it isn’t a patch on the service provided back in the 1980s. It was also well patronised by County Councillors as well as Staff. Happy days (and decor!) [John Baxter]

(B112) A walk home in the park

(B113) Tea in the park.

B113 – the hut in the park was started off in the 1960s I understand by one Ivor Brett. [John Baxter]

(B115) Church St, looking towards Watneys brewery. You can see the bridge between the brewery and the lorry yard.

(B116) Wedding party in hall somewhere. Saturday 28th April 1984, who were the lucky couple?

(B117) Wedding reception

(B119) Simeon the local Race Relations Officer
