1984 Week 01
On 31st December, 1983 I went to the 1984 New Year party at the Trowbridge Civic Hall, and at one minute past midnight on 1st January 1984 took this photograph. The first of I didn’t know, and had no idea, how many photos during the year ahead.
The photo shows Cliff Skinner the manager at the Civic Hall posing for a ‘call’ from someone. He had also been the manager for the Trowbridge Swimming pool as you can see for the comments.

Katrina Morton – A lovely man and family. He was Well respected by all at the civic hall and swimming pool.
Tom James – He is the only man l know who would ask people to take heeled shoes off to protect his waxed wooden floor in the hall….
Charlette Davies Katrina Morton – I’m related to them. Elaine Skinner’s mum was my mum’s sister!
Katrina Morton – Oh wow. Me and Toby are the same age, our mums were both in the hospital together when we were born. And we were in the same year in secondary school.

Gill Cooper Andrew David Jones – No Andrew, he died some years ago.

Sheila Hughes – Happy memories spending school summer holidays at the swimming pool 🏊♂️
Rachel Lane – When my baby was born I got told to leave her in the pram outside as she was asleep when I was attending an event with my mum and I refused, they said wheelchairs weren’t allowed either and we left , and I wrote a letter to the Wiltshire times to complain which they printed , it must have been about 1978 or 1979.
Bob Hulbert – I knew Cliff and his family well. Lived opposite them in Southway during our school days and teenage years, was very good friend! Memories of many happy times together!!
Justin Trowbridge – We used to go swimming every Sunday. He would come out with a kettle, pour it into the pool, and say this is the hot bit lovely man!
Jane Dear – It was a lovely pool.

(A106) A cup of coffee with the lovely Ralph Searle, a family butcher from Westbury who would deliver fresh meat to your home. Very sad to relate his wife fell ill and died a few years later.
2018 – Sad news from Mark Searle
Hi Mike, Noticed your website. Just to let you know my Dad ( Ralph Searle) passed away on Friday. (4th May, 2018 )
